Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will encompass full responsibility in defining the graphic presentation and visual interface design for web-based applications and other web-related projects at JWAY.

The Web Project Graphics Designer Interacts regularly with developers and project managers throughout the development cycle to design new “look & feel” as well as enhancements to existing work; creates prototypes, artwork/icons, and multi-media presentations; possesses excellent familiarity with an array of user interface guidelines, a mastery of Photoshop, Flash and other prototyping tools, a basic familiarity with computer security, DHTML, JSP and knowledge of internationalization and localization practices for user interface design.

This person is tasked with helping to implement and monitor standards for user interface, page design, and look-and-feel. The person in this position will work closely with the project management, production, engineering and development teams to design site pages, sections and browser-based applications that provide consistent presentation and navigation throughout the site.

The Web Project Graphics Designer must be able to work with the project manager to identify and communicate design requirements and limitations; produce browser-friendly, internationalized or localized user interface designs and specifications across many interconnected site components; design screen layouts, icons, and other visual elements; and respond to customer feedback on localization, user interface, and visual design.

In addition, this person should have some experience and an understanding of how design and user interface requirements integrate with a company's business model and marketing strategies. The Web Project Graphics Designer must be able to coordinate the design needs of multiple business groups in a globalized environment and deliver within schedule and resource constraints.

Other duties and responsibilities include:
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of visual and user interface approaches for various application and website projects.
  • Provide direction for look and feel of key site areas.
  • Participate in user validations and usability studies of existing properties as well as new concepts, designs, and prototypes.
  • Create page treatments and feature prototypes for validations and usability studies.
  • Participate in project meetings with product teams as needed; work with development teams to implement and refine page design and UI per technical constraints.
  • Produce real-world final design specifications for page design and flow.
  • Be an advocate for design, UI and localization issues throughout engineering and QA phases of development.
Skills/Experience Required:
Desired skills level classification for each of the job responsibility/deliverable is as follows:
    5 = Industry expert in skill/knowledge area
    4 = Advanced in skill/knowledge area - teaches others
    3 = Proficient in skill/knowledge area
    2 = Learning skill/knowledge area / some experience
    1 = Limited understanding of skill/knowledge area
  • 4-year degree and professional experience in graphic design, information design or a closely related field. (Please provide URLs and/or links to online portfolio). (3)
  • 3-5 years experience designing visual interfaces using Windows or Mac OS native software are absolutely required. (3)
  • Demonstrable skills in graphic and UI design for enterprise-grade web sites and documentation REQUIRED. (4)
  • Experience with corporate branding and identity design highly desirable. (3)
  • Should be an expert in all the tools of the graphic design trade, including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, ImageReady/Fireworks, and Macromedia Flash. (4)
  • Understanding of screen/graphics resolution, image compression, typography and advertising communication/design techniques a must. (4)
  • Experience with source code control systems like CVS and familiarity with large-scale software product development processes. (4)
  • Strong understanding of HTML production and its limitations. (4)
  • Strong experience using HTML/DHTML/CSS/JSP/JavaScript and other mainstream development environments for prototyping. (4)
  • Experience with web multi-character set and language treatment preferred. (3)
  • Proven team player capable of working in a highly collaborative environment. (4)
  • Exceptional illustration and graphic design skills. (4)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, works well independently and in teams. (4)
The successful candidate will excel at developing creative solutions to customer needs, identifying and articulating the UI value proposition as it relates to the project.
