In 2011, at the height of the Groupon phenomenon which was primarily traditional Web-based online coupons, MobyOffers was conceived to challenge both the Groupon business model and the platform. The MobyOffers business case for merchants is to get their deals (price leaders) visibility primarily on mobile devices (and secondarily on desktop Web) at an affordable and predictable subscription cost.

The objective of the project is to provide the development and consulting services in the following areas:

  • Implement a mobile app that is location-based and will enable consumers to shop for deals within the area they are at, save the coupons on their phone, and walk to the store to claim the offer
  • Provide merchants an easy and inexpensive way to get into the mobile app revolution and promote their business by offering price leaders and discount/deals coupons
  • Launch the app on iOS initially and Android eventually

To fulfill the project objective, JWay accomplished the following:

  • Analyzed business model and app requirements
  • Designed technical architecture of MobyOffers
  • Prepared app for submission to Apple App Store and Google Play
  • Implemented MobyOffers Web site
  • Set-up MobyOffers Facebook business page
  • Provided ongoing app enhancements

JWay’s involvement in MobyOffers has resulted in:

  • Launching of both iOS (2012) and Android (2013) versions of the app
  • Providing an alternate deals platform that is affordable for small businesses (merchants) and accessible and easy to use for smartphone users/shoppers (consumers)

  • Mobile app on iOS and Android
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Java/Grails back-end
  • Paypal integration
  • UI design for mobile apps
  • Technical approval process for Apple App Store and Google Pay
