XUI 2.0 Launched on March 30, 2004
JWAY launched XUI 2.0 on March 30, 2004. XUI 2.0 offers the enterprise an innovative approach to developing and deploying rich graphical user interface (GUI) for web applications.
XUI (eXtensible User Interface) is a standards-based Web UI Framework for the development of modular and extensible user interface components. XUI provides the ability to deliver a multi-behavioral GUI and User Experience based on business rules, security and entitlement policies, P13N (Personalization). XUI facilitates the development of a web application GUI by using existing web standards such as DHTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, and standard web browsers.
What can enterprises do with XUI 2.0?
- Create user interfaces that mimic desktop applications' user experience such as use of menu bars, tool bars, dynamic grids and tables, drag and drop, directory tree, tabbed panes, and more.
- Provide an environment to promote policies and guidelines for implementing rich GUI standards for web applications across the enterprise.
- Lay out the foundation for creating rich GUI for robust applications deployed over the Web such as an enterprise resource management system (ERP), a customer relationship management system (CRM), a content management system (CMS) or other applications.
XUI Features in a Nutshell
- Extensive Pre-Built Rich GUI Components
Includes all the essential components from buttons to split panes to tables.
- Layout Managers
Built-in Layout Managers such as FlowLayout, BorderLayout, and GridLayout.
- Pluggable Look-and-Feel
XUI gives any application using the components a choice of look and feel. For example, the same application can use the Metal, Motif or the Windows look and feel.
- Support for all intrinsic browser events
Includes abort, blur, change, click, error, focus, keydown, keypress, keyup, load, mousedown, mousemove, mouseout, mouseover, mouseup, reset, resize, scroll, select, sort, submit, and unload.
- Lazy Loading for large amount of data
Loads and renders data on demand through scrolling. The xtable component can practically handle any amount of data through the use of the lazy loading method.
- Drag-and-Drop Support
Provides the ability to drag-and-drop between components (xtree).
- Cross-Platform, Cross-OS, Cross-Browser Support
Works in various platforms:
- Windows 98/2000/XP: MS Internet Explorer 6.0+, Netscape Navigator 7.0+, Mozilla 1.0+, Firefox 0.8+
- Linux: Netscape Navigator 7.0+, Mozilla 1.0+, Firefox 0.8+
- Solaris (XUI 2.2 Release): Netscape Navigator 7.0+, Mozilla 1.0+, Firefox 0.8+
- Macintosh (XUI 3.0 Release): Safari, Camino, Netscape Navigator 7.0+, Mozilla 1.0+, Firefox 0.8+, MS Internet Explorer 5.0+
- World-Ready
XUI is world-ready and allows developers to quickly internationalize screens by using token-based label definitions which are dynamically handled by the Localized Content Manager (LCM). XUI supports Unicode and can build applications that accept text in languages that use thousands of different characters, such as Japanese, Chinese, or Korean.
