AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript and XML)

For the last 10 years, we have seen the Internet undergo tremendous change. It has matured into becoming the main platform to deliver online commerce and enterprise applications. We have seen the best-of-the-best in new technologies and approaches. But none of them is as exciting as AJAX in its capabilities to transform run-of-the-mill web user interface into a much richer user experience.

AJAX is not a new technology. Rather, it is a new approach in creating and delivering richer clients for the web using existing technologies such as HTML, XML, JavaScript and CSS. The AJAX approach is a major and important shift in the Internet’s default request/response model. With AJAX, the browser can now interact asynchronously with the server – performing dynamic tasks that before were only limited to thick clients or desktop applications.

This short seminar will discuss the fundamentals of AJAX and will include the following topics:
  • What is AJAX? History and story behind AJAX
  • Why use AJAX?
  • AJAX vs. Traditional client development tools and methodologies
  • When to use it and not to use it?
  • How does it impact the web development team and end users?
  • AJAX examples
  • Who uses AJAX?
At the end of the session, the audience is expected to gain a high-level view of what AJAX is, why it is fast becoming the de facto tool in creating rich internet applications.
