VISA ASSETCENTER UI POC PROJECT
DESCRIPTION
Visa’s Asset Management Group used a third party asset management application called AssetCenter. AssetCenter had two versions: (1) the desktop client and (2) the Web version. The Web version’s user interface (UI) lacked the richness that existed in the thick client version. Users had to navigate through several Web pages (at times back and forth for search and update) to do their day-to-day tasks. Visa wanted to improve on the Web UI for AssetCenter.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
The goal of the Visa AssetCenter Web User Interface (UI) Proof-of-Concept (POC) Project was to deliver/mimic the same experience on a browser as in the AssetCenter desktop client within an aggressive development period (6 weeks). The functionality earmarked for this project included:
- User authentication
- Menu bars
- Tool bars
- Status Bars
- Icons
- Tool tips (mouse over descriptions)
- No filter/Simple Filter Views
- Tabbed panes
- Nested tabbed panes
- Interactive Form Fields
JWay’ SOLUTION
JWay accomplished the AssetCenter Web UI POC Project objectives by developing the Web interface using JWay’s Extensible User Interface Framework (XUI). Utilizing our project management process and methodology, clearly defining requirements, carefully studying the AssetCenter environment – user interface, database set-up and system architecture, and working collaboratively with the Visa Asset Management technical team, JWay was able to deliver a richer Web interface for Visa’s AssetCenter that mimicked AssetCenter’s thick client look-and-feel and functionality, all in 6 weeks time.
RESULTS
The AssetCenter Web UI POC Project was a success. It delivered the rich Web interface that closely mimicked the thick Client and selected functions. An added bonus to the Visa Asset Management team was the ease and speed (just 4 hours of engineering time) with which XUI was ported to the updated version of the third party’s AssetCenter. This project was a clear indicator of JWay’s reliability as an outsource Web application development solution provider and XUI’s capability to provide a robust framework for developing a rich client for a Web application saving over 50% in development time and costs.
