USER INTERFACE (UI) DEVELOPMENT & CONSULTING
DESCRIPTION
A San Jose, CA-based global internetworking company needed to revamp their Small and Medium Business site on a tight deadline. JWay was tasked to complete a large chunk of these components while the company’s Interface Development (ID) team developed the surrounding framework and design specifications. However, development needed to begin prior to design completion and continue during design revision, with a quick turnaround once designs were finalized. Although the ID team’s framework was not completed on deadline, JWay was able to deliver on time by devising a solution which removed the major dependencies between the framework and deliverables.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
The objectives of the UI Development and Consulting project were as follows:
- To update the Small and Medium Business portal with new design, technologies, and features encouraging customer retention and participation
- To create a flexible set of components that would meet the client’s stringent accessibility guidelines while at the same time giving developers the freedom to manage and present dynamic content efficiently
JWay’ SOLUTION
JWay accomplished the project objectives by doing the following:
- Began work weeks before design specifications were finalized, and started building flexible prototypes based on wireframes and design drafts
- Reviewed and analyzed design specifications thoroughly – down to the pixel
- Tested in a variety of browsers and operating systems, rigorously measuring for pixel-perfect accuracy rigorously
- Researched new techniques for testing and solving CSS limitations and browser discrepancy issues
- Wrote comprehensive user experience (UE) specification and accessibility documentation
- Encouraged client Development Leadership to:
- Provide unified solutions to problems spread out over 20+ components
- Develop standards for efficient, consistent code across a team of developers
- Adopted Project Management processes and discipline to:
- Adapt to timeline and resource requirements throughout the project
- Communicate on progress, challenges and recommendations for success
RESULTS
JWay’s role in the project has resulted in:
- Meeting and exceeding client expectations in producing quality deliverables despite the challenges of multiple team dynamics and timeline pressures
- Delivering components on time, despite serious obstacles
- Proving the ability to master the management of resources, budget and time
- Overcoming obstacles, troubleshooting and providing innovative solutions to complex problems
