APPLICATION COMPONENT DEVELOPMENT & MAINTENANCE
DESCRIPTION
The Managed Service Application Component Development and Maintenance project represented a major effort for a large San Jose, CA-based global internetworking company to provide greater consistency in user experience across their applications through integrated framework templates, streamlined APIs, and design standards. The Web Technology group, responsible for the company’s Web Standards on the Internet, brought on JWay to create standards-compliant front-end components. These components needed to match strict specifications, design and accessibility requirements. Backwards compatibility needed to be addressed for updated components and comprehensive implementation guides written for brand new components.
OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT
The objectives of the Managed Service Component Development and Maintenance engagement were as follows:
- To provide new components that would be reusable across the company’s Internet applications in API or code snippet format to support the company brand
- To maintain and update existing components, forging consistency between the company’s applications and its Web site
- To analyze and modify existing components, allowing them to run in the same environment
- To resolve issues raised by application owners in using the components, and remain available to support their implementation
- To provide implementation guidelines
- To maintain and update the sample application
- To provide back-end development support to the client’s Development Team
JWay’ SOLUTION
To fulfill the objectives, JWay accomplished the following:
- Reviewed and analyzed specifications thoroughly
- Performed accessibility evaluation
- Ran backward compatibility analyses for APIs
- Developed flexible, reusable front-end components using latest CSS, HTML and JavaScript technology
- Developed a Java API to work seamlessly within an existing framework
- Created component updates based on UE specification
- Provided thorough documentation, including detailed specs, extreme use case examples, accessibility reports, TWIKI updates, comprehensive illustrated implementation guides, and code presentations for client development team
RESULTS
JWay’s role in the client’s project has resulted in:
