HISTORY
Our journey as an enterprise began in the days of National Center for Supercomputing Application (NCSA) Mosaic in late 1992. Upon recognizing the potential and implications presented by the emergence of World Wide Web (WWW), we became relentless in our efforts to deepen our technical understanding and to identify best practices. We quickly defined the types of resources needed to fuel the growth of a successful Web design and development team, i.e., those smart people driven to do powerful things in a creative and practical way. We also recognized early on the test bed needed to set us apart from our competitors. For example, we established a “Web lab,” made up of desktop computers, laptops, and Web servers running Unix, Window and Mac operating systems to give us that all-inclusive test environment to measure performance and page rendering: a state of the art array for its time.
Few people, let alone major corporations, understood how transformative the Internet would prove to be, but anyone who grasped the World Wide Web’s potential was profoundly intrigued. When JWay decided to make exploring this new world our business, we set out to become enterprises’ partner of choice for Web design and applications development and support services. As part of our strategy, we began to deliver training courses such as “Intro to WWW,” “WWW for Managers,” and “Building Your Web Site.” We were Web evangelists, committed to the success of our clients’ initiatives, whoever and wherever their audience was going to be.
By the time a company called Netscape™ officially emerged in 1994, we had already developed and implemented what was later referred to as an “Intranet” (we called it a “company electronic village”) for a diversified, global company with operations spanning chemicals, defense, food machinery, energy and transportation. A year later, we were already providing Web consulting services to the world’s largest internetworking company – a relationship that is on-going to this day.
While we always kept up with the flood of search engines, Web design and development tools, plug-ins for video and other multimedia files, we also directed significant resources to our development and consulting practice, focusing on User Experience and User Interface Design, Globalization and Localization, and advanced Web Applications Development.
As Y2K loomed, we were poised to file a patent for our internally developed XUI™ (eXtensible User Interface) product. The inspiration for the XUI idea came from the desire to provide a desktop-like user interface for Web designers and programmers – now commonly referred to as Rich Internet Application (RIA). The patent is pending for the XUI product and JWay owns the XUI trademark.
Today, we continue to pursue and master cutting edge technologies while refining our methodologies and processes in business and IT analysis, project management, and service delivery. By doing so, we have thrived and continued to be indispensible to our clients and strategic partners.
